Cast All Your Care

Metropolitan

July 1, 2019

When we are faced with problems—a lack of resources, a misunderstanding or some health problem—we have a choice. We can either give in and react through worrying and anguish or we can pray and ask other people to pray for us and leave the whole mess and all the worries with God, knowing that He is beyond time and space and is sovereign over all these things. Like it says in Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you”

Literally, refuse to entertain cares and worries. Make a choice to cast them on the Lord.

Say to yourself, out loud if need be, “Listen, what am I worried about? I do not have to worry about it. I will not do it. My God knows my future. I don’t have to worry about what happens ten years from now because today He is with me. He knows my tomorrow. He will take care of me.”

I have practiced the following method very deliberately over the last several months, and it has helped me immensely.

Say out loud in prayer to God: “Lord, I cast on You.”

Fill in the blank for each of the burdens that are weighing you down until you’ve cast all your cares on God.

If one of those concerns comes back with worry, cast it back on Him again. The more you cast one particular burden, the less and less of a hold it has on you until it is no longer something you worry about. Finally, you begin to realize it is the Lord’s responsibility to take care of it.

You can choose not to worry about things through the power of Jesus Christ, who is with you and in you. The Holy Spirit will give you the strength.

Free

Season of Lent is a journey to spiritual growth, renewal and an opportunity to know the Lord Jesus more intimately and closely. We must hear the Lord speaking to us all along the way as the journey continues so that our heart-attitude will become more like His. The way to attain this is by deliberately choosing an attitude of confession, denying of self, fasting, meditation, prayer and supplication. And, the life is enriched with humility of Christ and service to others. This daily devotional will do just that: bringing the focus upon Jesus and enabling spiritual renewal in our walk with the Lord.
