What if Jesus Had Never Been Born?

Metropolitan

November 10, 2023

Suppose you owned an ant farm, and you loved those ants more than anything in the whole world. How would you communicate your love to them? You could shout, “I love you,” in any language you choose, but they couldn’t understand you. You could write them a letter, but they couldn’t read it.

But if you had supernatural powers, there is one thing you could do. You could be born as an ant, live as an ant and communicate as they do. Then you could find a way to say, “I love you.”

This is what God did. John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world” that He sent His Son, Jesus. He became just like us so that we could hear Him say, “I love you.”

Have you ever thought about what the world would be like if Jesus had not come? His coming was the greatest event in all history. It was an event to history, affecting the world in so many ways. There’s a whole book about this by Dr. D. James Kennedy called, What If Jesus Had Never Been Born?

Christ stepped into a history marked by calamities, crises and poverty—problems the world has no answer for. Nothing we do alone can fix this mess we’re in. But in the midst of all these problems, Christ came. And the effects of that change in history are felt even now. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). It is His life that is changing the world today.

He came for all people, regardless of caste, creed, religion and nationality. And in the season of Advent, as we see the whole world preparing for Christmas, we remember that our life is not governed simply by the calendar or events of our own nation or world, but by something more transcendent and real.

God saw our need and our sinful condition, and He knew we needed to be saved from our sins. Jesus came as a loving Savior, and even now He is working to transform us, change us and reconcile us to the Father.
This Christmas, may we recognize that Jesus came as an answer to our great need, an answer to the world, and may we enter into the joy that comes from knowing His love.

A Journey with Jesus to the Cross (e-book)

Free

Season of Lent is a journey to spiritual growth, renewal and an opportunity to know the Lord Jesus more intimately and closely. We must hear the Lord speaking to us all along the way as the journey continues so that our heart-attitude will become more like His. The way to attain this is by deliberately choosing an attitude of confession, denying of self, fasting, meditation, prayer and supplication. And, the life is enriched with humility of Christ and service to others. This daily devotional will do just that: bringing the focus upon Jesus and enabling spiritual renewal in our walk with the Lord.
