Prayer for Pardon and Mercy

Priest: Holy and merciful God, we confess that You alone can pardon and remove our sins. Cleanse me of all the innumerable sins, known and unknown, of this, Your unworthy servant —and the sins of all Your people. O Lord, in Your kindness, have mercy on us. Remember also, Lord, the souls of our fathers and mothers, of our brothers and sisters, of our masters and teachers, and of all the faithful departed, the children of Your holy and glorious Church. O Christ, our King, the Lord of glory, the Lord and Master, may You be the absolution and absolver for them and for us. O Lord, hear us and help us; accept our prayers and supplications. O God, by Your mercy, remove all bitter chastisements and save us from the rods of wrath. Strengthen us, we pray, in our bodies, souls and spirits. May we always be refreshed by Your grace and mercy. Save us from all evil, O Shepherd of our souls, and lead us till the end that we may dwell with You forever. To You we offer praise and thanksgiving—now, at all times and forever.

The Creed

Deacon: Barekmor! Let us attend to the Divine Wisdom and respond to the Reverend Priest and say:

Priest: We believe in one God,

All: The Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

and of all things visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only begotten Son of God,

begotten of the Father before all worlds;

light of light, true God of true God,

begotten, not made,

being of one essence with the Father,

by Whom all things were made.

Who, for us men and for our salvation,

came down from heaven, ✠ [bowing]

and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man;

and was crucified ✠ [bowing] for us under Pontius Pilate;

He suffered and died and was buried;

And He rose ✠ on the third day, according to the Scriptures;

and ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of the Father;

and He shall come again with glory,

to judge the living and the dead;

Whose kingdom shall have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

Who proceeds from the Father;

Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified;

Who spoke by the prophets.

We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;

and we look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Priest: [in a low voice] O Lord, my God, cleanse me by ‘Your sprinkling of life’ that in purity and holiness, I may be made worthy to enter into Your Holy of Holies to handle Your divine mysteries, so that with a pure conscience, I may serve this most Holy Sacrament in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Priest: Pray with me, my beloved brothers and sisters, that I may be held worthy to serve this most Holy Sacrament as commanded by our Lord in His Holy Church.

Priest: [in a low voice] O holy and glorious ✠ Trinity, have mercy upon me.

O holy and glorious ✠ Trinity, have mercy upon me.

O holy and glorious ✠ Trinity, accept this offering from my weak and sinful hands.

O God, in Your mercy give repose and good remembrance on Your holy and heavenly altar to Your mother, to Your saints and to all the faithful departed.

O God, absolve and forgive my sins at this time, for I am Your sinful servant. Help me in my weakness, for I call upon You at all times.

Deacon: Sthoumenka— los.

People: Kyrie-eleiso— n.

ANAPHORA

Priest: ✠ Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

People: ✠ Now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

The Prayer of the Kiss of Peace

Priest: O God of all and our Lord, please make us worthy of this salvation, so that without guile and being truly united in love, we may greet one another with love and peace. To You, O Father, to Your only Son and to Your Holy Spirit, we ascribe praise and glory—now, at all times and forever.

People: Amen.

Priest: Peace be with you all.

People: And also with your spirit.

Deacon: In the love of the Lord, let us greet one another in peace.

People: O Lord our God, make us worthy of this peace.

Deacon: Brothers and sisters, having received this peace, let us bow our heads before the merciful Lord.

People: Our Lord and our God, to You we bow our heads.

Priest: O merciful Lord, Who dwells on high and beholds the humblest things, send Your blessings to those who have bowed their heads before You. Bless them by the grace of Your only begotten Son with whom belongs to You glory, honor and dominion with Your Holy Spirit, all holy, good, adorable and life-giving, Who is of one substance with You—now, at all times and forever.

People: Amen.

Priest: God the Father, by Your great love for mankind, You sent Your Son into the world to bring back the sheep that had gone astray. Please accept this bloodless sacrifice we offer, for we do not trust in our righteousness but in Your mercies. May this sacrament not be for our condemnation but for the remission of our sins and for offering our thanks and praise to You and to Your only begotten Son and to Your Holy Spirit, all holy, good, adorable and life-giving, Who is of one substance with You—now, at all times and forever.

People: Amen.

Deacon: Barekmor! Let us stand well. Let us stand with fear, with modesty, with purity and faith. Let us behold, with the fear of God, this Holy Eucharist, which is being placed by the hands of this Reverend Priest who, in unity and peace, offers this living sacrifice on behalf of all of us to God the Father.

People: Mercy, peace, sacrifice and thanksgiving.

Priest: [in a low voice] You are the Rock that was smitten for providing water to the twelve tribes of Israel, and You are our Rock that was broken to give us the living water.

First Blessing

Priest: The love of God the Father, ✠ the grace of the only begotten Son ✠ and the communion and abiding presence of the Holy Spirit ✠ be with you all, dearly beloved, forever.

The Great Thanksgiving

Priest: Let our minds, our understanding and our hearts be above, where our Lord Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God the Father.

People: They are with You, O Lord our God.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord in awe.

People: It is just and right to give Him thanks and praise.21

Priest: [in a low voice] It is truly proper and right to thank the Creator of the world and worship Him.

Priest: Glory and honor be to Him Whom the heavens praise and all the hosts thereof, material and immaterial; the sun, the moon, and all the stars; the earth, the seas and all therein; the Church of the Firstborn inscribed in heavenly Jerusalem, angels, archangels; principalities, powers, thrones and dominions; and the many-eyed cherubim and the six-winged seraphim who, veiling their faces and feet, fly one to another proclaiming His holiness—crying aloud saying, Holy.

People: Holy! Holy! Holy! The Lord God Almighty!

Heaven and earth are full of His glory!

Hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is He who has come, and is to come

in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna in the highest!

Priest: [in a low voice] In truth You are Holy, O King of the worlds, and the One who makes holy. Holy is Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; Holy is Your Holy Spirit, who searches out Your hidden mysteries. You created man out of earth and placed him in paradise; and when he transgressed Your commandment and fell, You did not abandon him but guided him by the prophets; and in the fullness of time, You sent into the world Your only begotten Son, Who being incarnate of the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary, renewed Your image, which was impaired in mankind.

Your resurrection we confess,

and Your second coming we look for.

May Your mercy be upon us all.

Priest: O Lord, we remember Your death, Your resurrection on the third day, Your ascension into heaven and Your second coming wherein You shall judge the world in righteousness and reward every man according to his deeds. Your own of Your own, we offer to You on behalf of all and for all, this bloodless sacrifice, beseeching You not to deal with us according to our debts nor our iniquities, but according to Your abundant mercies blot out the sins of Your servants. For Your people and Your inheritance pray to You and through You to Your Father, saying: Your weak and sinful servants, receiving Your grace, give thanks to You and praise for Your lovingkindness to all and for all: Labu-k Kaadh-Omero.

People: O God, have mercy upon us. We give thanks, we glorify You, and we worship You. Have compassion and mercy upon us.

Epiclesis (Invocation of the Holy Spirit)

Deacon: Barekmor! How solemn and awe-inspiring is this time, my beloved ones, wherein the Holy Spirit from the heavenly heights takes wings and descends, and broods and rests upon this Eucharist here present and hallows it. In calm and in awe, pray that peace may be with us and that all of us may have tranquility.

People: May peace and tranquility be with us all.

Priest: [in a low voice] Have mercy upon us, O God the Father, and send forth upon us and upon these offerings Your Holy Spirit, the Lord and Life-Giver, Who shares Your throne and Your kingdom with You and with Your Son; Who reigns with You, and is of one substance and co-eternal;

Who spoke in the Old and New Testaments; Who descended in the likeness of a dove upon our Lord Jesus Christ in the river Jordan; and Who descended in the likeness of fiery tongues upon the Apostles in the Upper Room.

Answer me, O Lord.

Answer me, O Lord, and have mercy upon me.

Priest: And make the wine in this chalice into the Blood of the New Covenant, ✠ the redeeming Blood ✠ and the true Blood ✠ of our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

People: Amen.

Priest: We pray to You, O Lord, that these Holy Mysteries may sanctify the souls and bodies of all those who partake of them; that they may bear the fruit of good deeds for the confirmation of Your Holy Church, which is firmly established on this rock of faith and is invincible to the gates of hell. Deliver her, O Lord, from all heresies to the end of time, that she may offer up glory and thanks to You and to Your only begotten Son and to Your Holy Spirit, all holy, good, adorable and life-giving, Who is of one substance with You—now at all times and forever.

Diptychs

Deacon: At this great, awesome and holy moment, let us remember our spiritual fathers, the faithful, the rulers, the Mother of God, saints, Fathers of the Holy Church and the faithful departed.

Deacon: Barekmor! God our Father, we pray for our spiritual fathers, our honourable Metropolitan Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I, all our episcopas, who are shepherding and leading the Holy Church of God throughout the world. Please grant them good health, protection from all schemes of the evil one and preserve them in the observance of Your holy commandments. Again, we remember all our true and faithful brethren who have urged us to pray for them at this hour. Restore to them the joy of salvation and strengthen them with Your power, for You are merciful. Lord, we also remember all who are in authority in our country and in all nations, that You would grant them wisdom to fulfil their responsibilities with justice and mercy, uphold the rights and privileges of all peoples and maintain the security and welfare of Your Holy Church throughout the World.

People: Kyrie-elesio—n.

Deacon: Barekmor! We remember the Theotokos, the holy, blessed and Ever-Virgin Mary; and the holy prophets; the apostles; the evangelists; the martyrs; confessors; and all the faithful saints who have departed. We remember them, and may they also remember us before You and join with us in this spiritual sacrifice for the blessing and the encouragement of the living. Again we remember the Fathers of the first seven ecumenical councils of the church and all the true shepherds who have kept undefiled the true apostolic faith and handed it down to us. Confirm in our souls the 28

doctrines of these Fathers and Doctors, and make us worthy to stand blameless before Your judgement seat, for You are Holy and the One Who perfects the saints. We also remember all those who have departed from this holy sanctuary and from everywhere in true faith and in the hope of the resurrection to life eternal. Give rest, O God, to their bodies, souls and spirits. Make them rejoice in the light of Your countenance, for through Him we also look forward to find mercies and the remission of sins, for us and for them, that at Your second coming we may be found worthy and be gathered into Your heavenly kingdom.

Priest: Our Father in heaven,

All: Hallowed be Your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors. 30

And do not lead us into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

✠ For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Priest: O Lord our God, lead us not into intolerable temptation, but deliver us from evil, preparing for us a way out of temptation that we may offer praise and glory to You, to Your only begotten Son and to Your Holy Spirit, good, adorable and life-giving, Who is of one substance with You— now, at all times and forever.

Send forth Your blessings and sanctify our souls, bodies and spirits that we may be worthy to partake of the life-giving mysteries of Christ, our Saviour. We offer thanks and glory to You and to Your only begotten Son and to Your Holy Spirit—now, at all times and forever.

Hymn of Eucharistic Devotion

Priest: By the resurrection of Christ, our King, we receive atonement for our souls. Let us, in true faith, cry out together in praise of the Son Who redeemed us by His resurrection and say:

All: Our Saviour, may Your resurrection be blessed. Holy, Holy, You are Holy. You magnify the commemoration of Your mother, Your saints and the faithful departed. O Christ the King, Hallelujah.

The heavenly hosts stand with us in the sanctuary and worship the Lamb of God, Who became the eternal sacrifice and His real presence here now in the Eucharist. Come, you faithful, and partake of the Holy Mysteries for the forgiveness and remission of sins. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, O Christ the King, Hallelujah.

O Lord, may there be a good commemoration on Your high altar for our parents, brethren and masters. May they stand at Your right hand on the day when Your glory will be manifested. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, O Christ the King, Hallelujah.

Receiving of the Holy Eucharist

Priest: [in a low voice] Hold me worthy, O Lord, that I may partake of these mysteries in a holy manner. Thank You for the privilege given me to partake of the Holy Body and Holy Blood of the Lord Jesus. May I be made worthy of the forgiveness of sins and the remission of debts, our Lord and our God, forever and ever. Amen.

Priest: From Your atoning altar, may the remission of our debts and forgiveness of our sins be granted to Your servants, O Son of God, Who came for our salvation and will come again for our resurrection and our restoration forever.

People: Amen.

Priest: O Lord, we pray for You to extend Your invisible right hand and graciously bless these Your children, who partake of Your precious Body and Blood for the remission of debts and forgiveness of sins, and to abide in Your holy presence, our Lord and our God forever.

People: Amen.

Priest: May the mercies of the great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ, be upon the bearers of these Holy Mysteries, and upon those who give them, and upon those who receive them, and upon all those who have participated and all those who shall participate in them, and may the mercy of God be on us and on them in both worlds forever.

People: A-m-e-n. Lord, be gracious and have mercy on us. Have mercy on us, Lord; have mercy on us. Praise be to You; praise be to You, O Lord; praise be to You, our everlasting refuge. Ha–lle–lu–jah.

Have mercy upon us.

Priest: We give You thanks, O Lord, for the abundance of Your mercy by which You have counted us worthy to partake of Your Heavenly Table. Grant that our participation in Your Holy Mysteries may not be a cause for our condemnation, but being counted worthy, may we be in fellowship with Your Holy Spirit and find a portion and an inheritance with all the righteous who have been from the beginning. We offer up glory and praise to You, to Your only begotten Son and to Your Holy Spirit—now, at all times and forever.
