Women Fellowship Brings Breastfeeding Awareness to Rural Mothers in Rwanda

For many mothers, caring for a young child comes with questions, challenges, and sometimes uncertainty. Recognizing the importance of practical knowledge and encouragement, the Women Fellowship of Believers Eastern Church, Diocese of Kigali, Rwanda, recently organized a Breastfeeding Awareness Program for mothers and caregivers in the rural communities of Rutsiro, Musanze, and Bugesera.

The program brought together 120 mothers and caregivers, providing them with an opportunity to learn, ask questions, share their experiences, and receive practical guidance on breastfeeding and child nutrition. The initiative sought to help mothers better understand the importance of breastfeeding and make informed choices that contribute to the healthy growth and development of their children.

Through interactive teaching sessions and practical demonstrations, the participants learned about the nutritional benefits of breast milk, maternal nutrition, child growth, and proper breastfeeding techniques. Facilitators demonstrated appropriate positioning and helped mothers understand how to overcome some of the common challenges they may encounter while breastfeeding.

The sessions also highlighted how breast milk provides essential nutrients and antibodies that help protect babies from illness, support their physical and mental development, and strengthen the special bond between mother and child. By combining information with practical guidance, the program encouraged mothers not only to gain knowledge but also to confidently apply what they had learned in their daily lives.

The program was warmly received by the participants. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to receive useful knowledge and encouragement on an aspect of childcare that directly affects the well-being of their families. They also expressed their commitment to putting the lessons into practice for the healthy growth of their children.

Through initiatives such as this, the Women Fellowship continues to demonstrate care for families and communities by addressing practical needs and equipping mothers with knowledge that can make a lasting difference in the lives of their children.
