The Church humbly calls upon the faithful to lift the nation of Sri Lanka in prayer, as severe weather conditions continue to worsen following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah. According to updates from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the situation remains critical, with the national death toll rising to 56. Authorities have also extended Red Landslide Evacuation Warnings across several high-risk zones as rains and winds continue without relief.
Communities Facing Immediate Threat
• Mandatory Level-3 Landslide Evacuation Warnings have been issued for the districts of Badulla, Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya, forcing families to urgently leave their homes for safety.
• A local incident near St. Peter’s Cathedral occurred after a large tree fell due to strong winds, causing injury to one person. Clearing operations and emergency response efforts are currently underway.
• The community of Palameenmadu (Batticaloa) lies directly in the projected path of the cyclone and remains in extreme danger as weather conditions escalate.
In this time of distress, we request the earnest and compassionate prayers of the faithful for the people of Sri Lanka, especially for those affected by the cyclone and for our church communities who stand in harm’s way.
Please Pray For:
• God’s comfort and peace for the families grieving the loss of 56 precious lives
• The safe return of the 21 individuals still missing
• Divine protection for all affected by landslides, floods, and destructive wind
• Strength, wisdom, and safety for our priests, missionaries, and believers serving in evacuation and danger zones
• The immediate calming of the storm and safeguarding of lives, homes, and essential infrastructure
As one body in Christ, may we stand together in intercession, trusting in the Lord’s mercy and protection during this time of great need.
