The catastrophic flash floods that struck parts of Nepal have left behind widespread destruction, disrupting lives, destroying homes and livelihoods, and leaving communities facing an uncertain road to recovery.
Photographs captured by a priest serving at St. Thomas Believers Eastern Church, Devighat, reveal the heartbreaking reality in the aftermath of the disaster. Devighat, a prominent religious, historical, and cultural town in Nepal’s Nuwakot District, was among the areas severely affected when catastrophic flash floods and heavy monsoon rains swept through the region. Large parts of the settlement were buried under thick mud and debris, while important infrastructure, including the Devighat Hydropower Station, sustained significant damage.
The once-bustling Devighat Bazar and surrounding local markets now lie beneath layers of mud, silt, and debris, while homes, businesses, and places of worship have been overwhelmed by the force of the floodwaters.
The images tell a story that goes far beyond physical destruction. Behind every layer of mud is a story. Behind every damaged home is a family. Behind every lost possession are years of memories and hard work.
As affected communities begin to face the difficult task of rebuilding their lives, the Church calls believers around the world to remember Nepal and those impacted by the floods in prayer.
Please pray:
• For those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
• For families wondering how they will begin again.
• For those who continue to face danger, displacement, and uncertainty.
• For rescuers, volunteers, and all those working tirelessly to bring help and relief.
• That food, shelter, medicine, and other essential needs will reach those who are suffering.
Above all, let us pray that God will bring comfort where there is sorrow, strength where there is weakness, and hope where everything seems lost.
