A Health Awareness Program for pregnant women and young and new mothers was successfully organized by Hope for Children in the Diocese of Pokhara, Nepal. The program aimed to provide essential knowledge on maternal and child health, safe pregnancy practices, breastfeeding, and immunization. A total of 35 participants attended the program, which was facilitated by Mrs. Supriya Rai, Social Worker. Mrs. Mandira Pradhan, Senior Auxiliary Health Assistant (AHA) of Pokhara Health Care Center, served as the resource person.
The main session focused on the importance of completing all eight recommended Antenatal Care (ANC) visits, scheduled from 12 weeks through 40 weeks of pregnancy, to ensure early detection of complications and safe delivery. Participants were guided on proper nutrition, use of essential supplements, adequate rest, personal hygiene, recognition of warning signs, and the importance of institutional delivery. The program also highlighted exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, proper techniques, solutions to common challenges, and the importance of timely immunization for both mothers and newborns, including recommended schedules and benefits.
An interactive group discussion encouraged participants to ask questions regarding pregnancy care, nutrition, breastfeeding, and vaccination, and all queries were addressed with clear and practical guidance. Many attendees gained new understanding about ANC schedules and postpartum care. The program concluded with positive feedback from participants, who expressed appreciation for the informative program.
