The Hope for Children Project in Urumpirai, Sri Lanka, successfully organized a General Health Awareness Program on 16 May 2025, with the aim of promoting healthy living among community members.
Health professionals Rupika and Aaranya, both experienced midwives, served as the chief resource persons. They led informative sessions covering a wide range of health issues. One session on food and nutrition highlighted the benefits of a balanced diet, proper food portions, and the dangers of unhealthy eating habits. Participants learned how good nutrition boosts immunity and supports overall well-being.
A session on maternal and child health focused on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a baby’s life. The discussion also included practical advice on child nutrition, hygiene, immunization, and the need for regular pediatric check-ups.
The program also addressed the growing concern of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Participants were educated on recognizing symptoms, preventive measures, and the importance of early detection through regular monitoring of blood sugar and blood pressure levels.
At the conclusion of the program, refreshments were served, providing an opportunity for informal interaction and reflection. Many participants expressed their appreciation for the practical knowledge shared and indicated their intention to adopt healthier habits and schedule regular medical check-ups.
