Hope for Children organized a Sewing Machine Distribution Program in Nanu Oya, Sri Lanka, to support household livelihoods and help underprivileged women build sustainable sources of income.
During the program, Mr. Dass, HFC National Coordinator, highlighted the importance of livelihood development and encouraged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the sewing machines to strengthen their skills and generate income for their families. Following the address, five sewing machines were formally distributed to beneficiaries who had previously completed sewing training through HFC.
The program was designed to combine practical training with the equipment needed to put those skills into practice. The cost of each sewing machine was shared equally between HFC and the respective beneficiary, with each contributing 50 percent. With both training and equipment in place, the beneficiaries can now pursue home-based tailoring work, earn additional income, and contribute to their families’ daily needs.
The beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to HFC for providing comprehensive support through both skills training and equipment. S. Gunamathi, 40, said the program was valuable in helping women improve their livelihoods and thanked HFC for the opportunity. K. Mohanakanthi, 28, also expressed her gratitude, saying that the sewing machine would be a great support for improving her livelihood and future.
The initiative reflects Hope for Children’s continued efforts to equip individuals with practical skills and resources that can strengthen families and promote sustainable livelihoods.
