Intimacy with God is a Pursuit

Metropolitan

November 6, 2018

We can know all about God, about Christianity and have all the right answers—but never really know Him and walk in deep fellowship and relationship with Him. We don’t want that to be the story of our life here on earth!

It is good to stop, put away all our right answers and experiences, and ask ourselves: Do I know God personally? Do I have an intimate walk with Him? Have I been changed by an encounter with the Lord’s nature?

This intimacy with God is a pursuit.

For us to get the craziness of the world around us to subside in our mind’s eye and to simply see God and who He is, it is an intense battle upstream. The only way to stay on this kind of course is to have this constant crying out to God with our voice, with our feelings, with private prayer and emotion and anything we have to offer. It is in every season of our lives, no matter how we may feel, having this cry of: Lord, I want to know You. I want to have this intimacy with You. You alone can do that for you, and I alone can do it for me.

In Philippians 3:10, we see this same sentiment in Paul’s heart cry to follow Christ: “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.”

The answer above all else is to have in our hearts the supreme priority of continually getting to know the Lord. And this is the promise we have from God: “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13).

RESOURCES

A Journey with Jesus to the Cross (e-book)

Free

Season of Lent is a journey to spiritual growth, renewal and an opportunity to know the Lord Jesus more intimately and closely. We must hear the Lord speaking to us all along the way as the journey continues so that our heart-attitude will become more like His. The way to attain this is by deliberately choosing an attitude of confession, denying of self, fasting, meditation, prayer and supplication. And, the life is enriched with humility of Christ and service to others. This daily devotional will do just that: bringing the focus upon Jesus and enabling spiritual renewal in our walk with the Lord.
