The Archdiocese of Kathmandu reached out to flood-affected families in Devighat, Nuwakot, on 28 August 2026, providing essential relief materials and a message of hope and comfort amid the devastating aftermath of the recent floods.
Following reports of the difficult situation faced by 14 families severely affected by the disaster, a church relief team travelled to Devighat to stand alongside those in need. The journey itself proved challenging, as the main road had been badly damaged by the floods. The team was therefore forced to take an alternative route, turning what would normally be a two-hour journey from Kathmandu into a nearly five-hour trip.
The team eventually reached Devighat and gathered the affected families at one location for the distribution. Each family received a comprehensive ration and relief package containing essential food and household supplies, including rice, beaten rice, lentils, salt, cooking oil, biscuits, noodles, clothing, blankets, kitchen utensils, waterproof shoes, T-shirts, solar lamps with power banks, bathing soap, masks, gloves, tarpaulins, and other food items.
The families received the relief packages with grateful hearts and expressed their sincere appreciation to the Church relief team for remembering them and standing alongside them during a difficult and uncertain time.
One of the beneficiaries, Bhagwati Chitrakar, shared her gratitude:
“The flood brought great suffering to our family and took away many of the things we had. At such a difficult time, you came to us with essential supplies and words of encouragement. We are very thankful for your kindness. Your words and help have given us strength and hope during this painful time.”
The team’s service extended beyond the distribution of relief materials. Following the relief distribution, they joined the Nepal Police in the recovery of bodies from the riverbank. They assisted in exhuming the bodies and carrying them to the roadside, where they were handed over to the police for the necessary procedures.
This relief effort is part of the ongoing response of Believers Eastern Church in Nepal. Two Church teams from Kathmandu are currently serving on the ground under the guidance of His Eminence Titus Mor Osthathiose, bringing practical assistance, dignity, and compassionate support to communities affected by the floods.
As the affected families begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives, the Church continues to call for prayer for those who have lost their homes, belongings, and sources of livelihood. May God provide for their daily needs, comfort their hearts, and give them strength and hope as they begin again.
