The General Synod of Believers Eastern Church 2026 prayerfully commenced yesterday at St. John Believers Eastern Church, Gurgaon, and was formally inaugurated by H.H. Moran Mor Dr. Samuel Theophilus Metropolitan.
The gathering began with the celebration of the Holy Liturgy. With hearts lifted in thanksgiving, the congregation praised God for His gracious guidance over the past year and humbly sought divine wisdom and discernment for the deliberations ahead. The prayer of thanksgiving included gratitude for the expansion of ministries across Asia and Africa, for the Church’s service to the poor, children, widows, and the underprivileged, and for the life and enduring legacy of Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan of blessed memory.
Special prayers were offered, asking for God’s mercy, unity, clarity, and courage as the Church seeks to faithfully carry forward the holy faith and mission entrusted to her.
The session was presided over by His Eminence John Mor Irenaeus Episcopa, Archbishop of the Delhi and Chennai Archdioceses. His Eminence Joshua Mor Barnabas Episcopa, Secretary of the Holy Synod and Archbishop of the Kolkata and Jorhat Archdioceses, delivered the welcome address.
More than 500 delegates—including archbishops, bishops, diocesan and provincial vicars, and synodal leaders—are participating in the General Synod, which will continue until the 22nd.
The Church calls upon the faithful to continue upholding the General Synod in prayer, that the Holy Spirit may guide every reflection and decision, strengthening the Church’s mission to be a beacon of light, a bridge of reconciliation, and a sign of hope to a hurting world.
