Believers Eastern Church Archdiocese of Kathmandu, in collaboration with Hope for Children Project, Nepal, continues to serve families affected by the devastating flash floods that struck parts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts on 26 August 2026. The disaster claimed lives, destroyed homes and belongings, and left many families displaced. Several families have been staying in holding centres for safety, while numerous homes remain covered with mud, sand, and debris, preventing residents from safely returning.
Since the beginning of the disaster, the Church has been involved in relief and restoration efforts to support affected communities. As part of the ongoing response, a 25-member team led by His Grace Andrew Mor Policarpose Episcopa of Bhimnagar Diocese began debris-cleaning work in Kasitar and Devighat Bazar on 21 September. The volunteers are helping families clear mud, sand, and debris from their homes, enabling them to begin the difficult process of restoring their living spaces. The restoration work is scheduled to continue until 30 September 2026.
The team’s service has been warmly received by the local community. Homeowners have expressed deep gratitude for the practical assistance, while passersby have also been encouraged by the volunteers’ compassionate efforts. Several people approached the team seeking similar help for their flood-damaged homes.
Binod Khatiwada, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude, saying, “My house was filled with mud, sand, and debris, and it was very difficult for me to clean everything. Without expecting anything from us, you came and cleaned my house. You have brought joy and happiness to my heart. Your service has been a great help to my family. I sincerely thank you all.”
Through these restoration efforts, Believers Eastern Church continues to extend practical support and encouragement to families facing the long road to recovery. The ongoing work reflects the Church’s commitment to standing with communities in times of hardship and helping those affected take steps towards rebuilding their lives.
